Momofuku Milk Bar Cornflake Crunch

August 27, 2013

I've never been to any of the Momofuku establishments, but it's on my bucket list for sure. Wait, I just found out that they can SHIP cookies and things to you... *hint hint* Husband. My birthday is in 6 DAYS and I think their birthday cake would be quite fitting. Or anything from that site... anyone?

I have been dying to try these cornflake crunch after finding the cookie recipe on Pinterest. It's been floating around all over the interwebz and since the Husband is coming home soon, I thought I'd celebrate with some cookies, which will be posted at a later date.

The cornflake crunch is crunchy (duh!), salty and sweet. A little too salty for me, but still delicious and would taste better topped over ice cream which I didn't have. I was a little iffy about the milk powder, but do not skip that! Seriously... DO NOT SKIP. It's not cornflake crunch without it.

Momofuku Milk Bar Cornflake Crunch
recipe from martha stewart

1/2 (12-ounce) box cornflakes (about 5 cups)
1/2 cup milk powder
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon coarse salt
9 tablespoons melted butter

Preheat oven to 275 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a nonstick baking mat; set aside.

Place cornflakes in a medium bowl. Using your hands, crush to one-quarter of their original size. Add milk powder, sugar, and salt; toss to combine. Add butter and toss to form small clusters.

Spread cornflake mixture in an even layer on prepared baking sheet. Transfer to oven and bake until clusters are toasted and smell buttery, about 20 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool completely.

Marshmallow Fluff Fruit Dip

August 13, 2013

The first time I ever had this dip was over a decade ago at my friend, Kelli's grandmother's house during the holidays. I was instantly hooked and I ate more than I should of... which resulted in a tummy ache. I remember her grandma telling me that it was just cream cheese and marshmallow fluff. Say what now?! I remember trying to making it home, but it just didn't taste as good as she made it. Isn't that just how it is?

Over the weekend, my friend hosted a game night and we were asked to bring some kind of a snack food. I've made cookies in the last couple events, but I wanted to make something different. Something simple. With me moving around furniture and turning the house upside down awaiting for my husband to come home (SOON!!!), something quick and easy is right up my alley. The dip was a huge hit and would make a great snack at home or to bring to a party!

Marshmallow Fluff Fruit Dip

1 8oz cream cheese, softened
1 7oz jar of marshmallow fluff
1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Beat cream cheese with mixer until fluffy.

Add marshmallow creme and vanilla extract until well incorporated.

Mosa's Guacamole

June 3, 2013

My friend Rosina came up to visit me for a week, hence the lack of posts and lack of communicating with my blogger friends. My bad. I'll have some posts up about our adventures, but if you follow me on Instagram, you did see snippets... or more like food we ate. So, one thing Ro said she'd do is make me some Mexican food which I was over the moon so excited.

First up, guacamole. Can't have Mexican food without some guacamole ya know? It's a very basic recipe and you can add more of this or more of that to suite your own taste, but for me, this was sooo spicy! What can I say, I'm weak.

Mosa's Guacamole

5 avocados, de-pitted and sliced
2 jalapenos, diced (or minced)
1/4 cup red onions, diced
1 1/2 TBsp minced garlic
2 small vine tomatoes, diced
2 limes, juiced
Salt & Pepper for taste

Add your avocado, one jalapeno, onions, garlic, one juiced lime and mash everything together in a large bowl.

Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Add in more jalapeno and/or lime juice.

Top with diced tomatoes and gently mix into the dip.

Note: To store leftovers, place saran wrap right on top of the guacamole (touching it) and make sure there's no air. I put mine in a tupperware and it's been 2 days and still very fresh!

Oven Fried Fries

March 28, 2013

I saw this pin on Pinterest the other day and I had 2 potatoes that were starting to sprout. I had a couple other potato recipes I wanted to try, but instead went with some oven fries. Let me tell you, around the 20 minute mark or so, my house literally smelled like McDonald's but not in an overly greasy way. I love fries. I know you love fries. And to be able to make them at home? Even better! Originally, I was viewing the pin from my phone and when I went to the source site, there was no recipe to be found. I ended up winging it, but I finally did find the recipe which will be linked below.

I might of sorta over baked mine a bit and while taking photos, added a little bit too much salt. Overall, they were actually pretty good! They're in between a fry and a soft potato chip... if that even exists. I would definitely give this recipe another shot... maybe sprinkle in some herbs or even make garlic fries.

Also, I've been planning a blogiversary group giveaway and I am so excited! Hope you'll be too :)

Oven Fried Fries
Original recipe from Self

2 golden potatoes, cut into 1/3-inch-thick fries
2-3 TBsp olive oil
3/4 tsp kosher salt

Preheat oven to 425F.
Place cut potatoes into a bowl of cold water. Drain and pat dry.
Toss with oil and sprinkle of salt.
Roast on parchment lined baking sheet for about 30 minutes or until browned and cook thoroughly.

Guest Post: Healthy Surprise Box Review

March 1, 2013

Hello everyone!

I am here as a guest blogger to share with you my experience of Healthy Surprise. Healthy Surprise is a monthly food subscription box that I found through Google. It had great reviews so I decided to give it a shot. The box contains organic, natural, soy free, gluten free, and vegan goodies that are delivered to you via a green looking cardboard box. I bought this box because I wanted to have some extra organic snacks lying around the house to munch on. I ordered the medium sized box which is $66 and promises 32-40 servings for 1-4 people. The box came with free shipping as well. The inside of the box is exciting and colorful.

Then, I proceeded to count all of the items inside the box. There are a total of 17 items in this box (big and small which includes:

Larger sized items:

1 Caveman Crunch- A granola and fruit snack packet
1 Barefruit Crunchy Cinnamon Apple Chips- All natural apple chips (they look delicious)
1 Sea Sprinkles Seaweed Snack Clusters
1 Ginger Snaps Super Cookies (darn zesty, crunchy, and tasty!)
1 Hail Merry Macaroons (These choco macaroons look tasty as well)
1 Gopal's Pumpkin Seed Sprouties Savory
1 bag of Home Free chocolate chip cookies (these were pretty standard)

Smaller sized items:

1 Healthy Warrior Chia seed fruit bar (quite interesting and fun to eat)
1 Sacred Chocolate Dairy Free Mylk chocolate heart
1 Scared Chocolate Dairy Free Twilight chocolate heart
1 Gopal's Raw Alchemy Enzyme Rich Brownie
1 Go Raw Spirulina Energy Bar
1 Hail Merry Grawnola orange cranberry raw nut & fruit blend (tastes healthy and yum)
1 That's It fruit bar (1 apple + 1 pear)

Tiny items:

3 small pieces of Righteously Raw chocolate (one was mint, one was dark, and one was spicy .35 oz each)

As tasty as Healthy Surprise is, I still feel like it's a bit expensive. I may feel this way because I wish I could have picked my snacks as well. Now, not to sound like a total grinch, but I wish there was more food in my box. However, if you don't live close to a Whole Foods or who are only looking for super natural items that taste great, this box is probably awesome for you. Also, if you love super high end organic chocolate, you'll probably love this box as well.

Here's the upside, the items in the box were really well selected and varied, and you could tell the company put a lot of thought into what was inside the box. Also, the snacks are really organic and vegan just like they promised. The packaging of the snacks is also desirable and eye catching. So far, what I've eaten has been absolutely delicious!! I'm not sure if I would pay $66 again for this box. I wish it were more along the lines of $50. Either way, the snacks inside tasted really good and I really loved eating them.

Well, that's all folks! I hope this review was helpful to you. :)

Graze Box: Week 3

February 23, 2013

Honeycomb Crunch
milk chocolate coated honeycomb, raisins and almonds
verdict: I loooooove chocolate covered honeycombs and this was right up my alley. I was so excited to get them and I wish there were more milk chocolate coated honeycombs!

Cheddar Gorge
cheese cashews, baked herb bites and salsa corn sticks
verdict: I have no clue where the cheesy flavor went because the salsa corn sticks overwhelmed the whole tray! If you like salsa flavored snacks, then you'll probably enjoy these.

Eton Mess
almond slices, blackcurrants, mini meringues and cranberries
verdict: blackcurrants and cranberries are insanely tart, but if you eat it with the mini meringues, it cuts the tartness just a tiny bit.

Fruit and Seed Flapjack
rustic rolled oat flapjack with mixed seeds and dried fruits
verdict: Again, delicious flapjacks!

Graze Box: Week 2

February 21, 2013

I received my second Graze box awhile back and I am currently loving these surprise snack boxes! Like I said, I am a huge snacker and these always arrive on days when I'm feeling extra snack-y. Thanks to all the friends who signed up using my exclusive code :)

Summer Pudding
yogurt coated sunflower seeds, blackcurrants, sponge pieces and cranberries
verdict: Since I had these awhile ago, I actually do not remember the taste, but I must not of liked it enough because I trashed it.

Tropical Sundae
pineapple, mango and banana coins
verdict: Tropical party in my mouth! I love that their fruit pieces are nice and chewy. The mango was surprisingly delicious.

The British Barbecue
rosemary crostini, mini basil breadsticks, fiery seeds and smoked almonds
verdict: Trashed! Herb snacks = BBQ? Definitely was my least favorite of all the snacks I've received.

Apple and Cinnamon Flapjack
rustic rolled oat flapjack with apple and cinnamon
verdict: If Graze sold their flapjacks individually, I would be the first in line to purchase! They are incredibly moist and sosososo good!

Baked Jalapeno Popper

February 8, 2013

I am not a sports watching, jersey wearing, fan cheering person. Honestly, we just weren't one of those families growing up... I think the only sport we watched was golf and let me tell you... Golf is insanely boring to watch on TV and in person. Since hubby is home for R&R, I knew he wanted to watch the Super Bowl and he requested we make some jalapeno poppers. After a quick Google, we decided to use Gina's recipe since I've loved every recipe I've ever made from her site.

Be smart and wear gloves. I can only nag my husband so much to do so and when he itched his nose later, he then knew WHY I was nagging him to. Ugh, MEN. These were super easy to make and didn't take long to bake either. I ended up messing up and adding the seasoning to the cream cheese mix and in the panko crumbs. This is what happens when you're pissed off at your husband. These actually turned out really good! If you're lucky, you'd get one that my husband cleaned throughly, if not, you'd get a pretty spicy one!

Baked Jalapeno Poppers
Original recipe from Skinnytaste

12 jalapeƱo peppers, sliced in half lengthwise
8 oz light cream cheese
4 medium scallions, green part only, sliced
2 oz shredded sharp cheddar
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup panko crumbs
1/8 tsp chipotle pepper
1/8 tsp garlic powder
salt and fresh pepper
spray oil

Preheat oven to 350°. Wearing rubber gloves, cut peppers in half lengthwise and scoop out the seeds and membrane.
Combine cream cheese, cheddar, scallions and seasonings in a medium bowl.
Combine panko, paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper in another bowl.
Fill peppers with cheese filling with a small spoon.
Dip peppers in egg.
Place pepper in panko mixture, using a spoon to make sure all the seasoning doesn't fall to the bottom of the bowl.
Spray a baking pan with oil spray.
Bake in the oven for about 20-25 minutes or until golden.

I Love Graze Box!

February 6, 2013

I was introduced to Graze Box through Elizabeth and I was so excited to receive mine this past Saturday. Unlike regular subscription boxes, you pay $5 a week for a box of munchies which you get to rate in advance. My first box was pretty amazing and I ended up eating it all the same day!

If you want to get yourself a FREE box, you can enter in my exclusive invite code ( CVRLD6HD ) at check out. Honestly, if you're a huge snacker, like me, you'll definitely want to give it a try. I'm already excited for my next box :)

Here's what I received in my first box:

scrumptious blueberry swirl
blueberry yogurt raisins, raspberry infused cranberries and blackcurrants

verdict: Originally I rated this at a 'like' because I loved all the ingredients, but after tasting it... It was too sweet/tart for my liking. Compared to the other goodies they have on this site, I decided to trash it for now.

lightly toasted pistachios

verdict: It's just pistachios. I haven't even ate these since they weren't anything super exciting.

cracking black peppercorn
black pepper rice crackers

verdict: I'm one of those weirdos who feels like I need to bring my own black pepper mill in my purse because I seriously love freshly ground black pepper on everything. The rice crackers are really crunchy and the flavor is so intense. It was so spicy!

toffee apple
sticky toffee sauce with granny smith apple slices

verdict: This is by far my absolute favorite one out of the whole box! I am a sucker for anything with caramel and I was surprised how delicious these are! I was surprised that the apple slices weren't crispy like those apple chips you buy, but they were soft and chewy and not tart like a regular granny smith apple would be.

Dark Chocolate with Dried Cherries and Marshmallow Bit Granola Bars

September 16, 2012

I don't buy or eat granola bars often, but these were pretty much calling my name after I saw it on Foodgawker and majority of the ingredients should already be in your pantry. Plain granola bars are pretty much a blank canvas and you can add whatever your little heart desires. The original recipe just used mini chocolate chips, pretzels and peanut butter.

Dark chocolate chips, pretzels, peanut butter, dried cherries and marshmallow bits. So good! Who knew homemade granola bars were this easy?! Next time I'm going to omit the peanut butter or put less than what the recipe calls for.

Dark Chocolate with Dried Cherries and Marshmallow Bits Granola Bar
Original recipe from My Gathering Table

1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup creamy peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup quick oats
1 1/2 cup crispy rice cereal
3/4 cup chopped pretzels
1/4 cup dark chocolate chips
Dried cherries (optional)
Marshmallow bits (optional)

Line an 8 x 8 inch square pan with wax paper.

In a medium saucepan add butter, brown sugar, honey and peanut butter. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally until the mixture starts to bubble. Once bubbling cook for 2 minutes while stirring. Remove from heat and add the vanilla.

Stir in the oats, crispy cereal and pretzels. Stir until well coated. Pour into the prepared pan. Press the mixture evenly into the pan. Sprinkle the chocolate chips, dried cherries and marshmallow bits.

Let the it cool. Cut into bars and serve.
