Food Photography Tips & Links

March 20, 2013

A few people has asked me about what I use when I take my photos and to be honest, it has definitely been a trial and error. When I first started taking food photos, I was using an extremely old point and shoot, which I can't even remember what camera it was. About 4 years ago, I got my Nikon P90 which is a large point and shoot. It's almost the same size of a DSLR but there's no fancy attachments or special lenses. Even til this day, there's still a lot of settings that I have no clue how to use. I am definitely not a pro! Just a dabbler.

A couple years ago, I also signed up for a free online workshop featuring the amazing Penny De Los Santos. From her, I've learned a couple tips and tricks. My personal go to is using foam boards that you can find for cheap at the dollar store + natural light... I tend to set up right in front of my patio door. Also, photoshop helps.

There's also a gazillion and one pins available on Pinterest. I also used a lightbox for awhile. I made one myself which I left at my Mom's and then Hubby surprised me with one which is now tucked away somewhere. The thing about using a lightbox was the lighting. I used desk lamps from around my Mom's house during that time since that's all she had and for all I know, this taking food pictures could be just a phase. I know I may never be as amazing as Todd & Diane, but I still enjoy it immensely.

Hope this post was somewhat helpful!
